Wow! Exciting news at Lobina HQ this week! We’re honoured and delighted to be a finalist for Employer of the Year in The Midlands Family Business of the Year awards.
This is the first time we’ve entered and so it’s an extra thrill to be a finalist. The best thing about it is that it gives us a chance to pause and reflect on what EVERYONE in our team has achieved in our business journey so far.
It’s always been important to us that we celebrate every success, big and small, together and give credit to our team members when it’s due. So, it’s satisfying to see our company culture recognised by the judges who have shortlisted us for this honour.
Organisers of the awards have said that this year they received the highest volume of entries and also the highest quality, making it very difficult for their judges to shortlist just six finalists in each category.
All finalists will also be entered in the People’s Choice Awards, where the winner will be chosen by the public.
Luigi Lobina, our managing director, said: “In the early days of Lobina, when my grandfather Gino started it as a fairly humble delivery service for Italian families in the UK in the 1960s, he didn’t put a label on what he was doing and call it ‘creating a company culture’. He simply had a natural instinct to be helpful, honest and treat others as he would want to be treated.
“That ethos was passed on to his son, my father Simon, and then to me. There is a real ‘family feel’ in the office, meaning that we lift each other through difficult days and we celebrate every victory and give credit where it’s due. It’s a huge honour for me to be the third generation of my family to lead this company.”
The next stage of the competition will be judging days in September and October before winners of the awards are named at a black tie dinner in Leicester in November.
The Midlands Family Business of the Year awards, now in their 10th year, are the UK’s only independent initiative dedicated to celebrating and recognising the success, achievements and innovations of family run and owned businesses.
